| | Helping students with learning and thinking differences navigate mental health and emotional challengesUnderstood.org’s Neurodiversity and Stigma Study found that kids with learning and thinking differences, like ADHD and dyslexia, are 2-3x more likely to struggle with managing emotions, anxiety about going to school, and self-confidence compared to their neurotypical peers.
Many of the mental health and emotional challenges neurodivergent kids face are often linked to day-to-day situations and feelings they encounter – stigmas associated with their learning differences, academic challenges, and increased challenges with processing and managing emotions. But the current events and tragedies in our world paired with the ongoing impact of the pandemic are also increasingly and acutely affecting the mental and emotional well-being of children who learn and think differently. And in many instances, these events are making it more difficult or scary for kids to talk about their mental health.
